Blackbirds were making a hug commotion in the larches along the stream to the site of the field during our lunchtime pootle, and luckily I went over to investigate. It paid off and I was rewarded with a lovely sighting of a tawny owl sitting in the tree. The owl flew off after a few minutes, but the same thing happened as I approached the douglas firs next to the waxcap meadow. More commotion from the blackbirds and the tawny owl (or a friend) was back, perching half-way up one of the firs. A good reminder to listen to what the birds are saying!
